We're looking into the possibiliy of using Zimbra in school for about 700-800 users (around 80-90 staff members included).

1) Can somebody recommend some hardware specs that will be more than capable of dealing with this amount of users (including giving our staff members a realistic amount of space) - not sure what space you give your staff/students.

2) Once some hardware has been recommended can some of the forum sponsors give me a couple of quotes to match.

Thanks,

Before I left the school I deployed a dual quadcore with 16GB of RAM on a RAID5 arrangement for 1500 users which easily met our needs with scope for the future. (we looked at 100MB for students and 500MB for staff).

Do you know how many are likely to use the webapp versus Outlook or so?

More importantly, how do you want to back it up?

I've been playing with running Zimbra on a server with the data on an Amber Road (Sun Storage 7000) unit which allows replication to a partner/other devices as necessary for backing it up.

100MB not enough for you :p

Sick of staff complaining - rang up to ask for more space (even offered to pay for it) and got told "no, there's no exceptions". It's a complete joke.

Happy birthday for yesterday BTW.

I would say all staff on outlook access, and all kids on web access. About 90/650 the ratio is (give or take).

Backups is something that I haven't even thought about - just got to patch together rough costs for now to see if it would be possible. I would guess the backup hardware would be a simple NAS box with plenty of HDD, but as I say I haven't thought that far ahead yet.
