We have about 120 P2055's that have been in place for a little over a year and absolutly no issues, then Thursday last week users started calling saying they cannot print. We find the printers in error state on the print server and cannot ping them, or web to them and have to power cycle them to get them back on line. Now we are seeing the issue everyday. I just don't understand how they can work a year and then all of them start having issues at the same time and continue to have issues. Nothing has changed on the print servers, network, printers, etc. We do use Cerner EMR primarly for printing, but cannot see how that would have affected them. Thanks in advance for your help. Frank

Trust me when I say I tried every combination of setting including enabling the onboard firewall to prevent other issues and nothing but the firmware worked. ZeroHour can I get the beta firmware link also. Frank This fits with the theory its a device/bad packet. We dont know what does the packet but it could be an old pc/new pc/new device but when the problem comes it comes on mass. capsaicin Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 This has recently become a problem for me too. We have a few 2055dn's and at least one has started to show these symptoms. Within less than 5 minutes of being powered on it will go offline and stop responding until restarted. I have updated the firmware on our 2055dn that is having problems from v.37.10.sd to v.37.12.ir6508 and saw no change in the symptoms. I have tried some of the other mentioned fixes as well: shortening the timeout period, disabling SNMP, disabling IPV6. None of this seemed to fix the issue either. I would like to try this new firmware as well. I'll try anything that may fix this!

rbance Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 Hi all, We fixed this problem at our school by looking at the network broadcast domains. I think zerohour was on the right track in an earlier post when he mentioned he saw something going on with some packets on the network. By creating a separate printer vlan, we effectively stopped the rogue packets from sending these printers to sleep (our best guess). We no longer see this problem with our HP2055DN or any other printer for that matter.....

Gaz Posted April 7, 2011 Posted April 7, 2011 I've just skimmed over some of the 13 pages and I have to say out of my 4 of these printers In over a year I've only had 1 paper jam on one of them and thats with daily use. I got lucky I guess?

Gaz: it seems to be linked to random problem network packets that cause them to mess up, its not batch specific, it seems more if you have a device/software that sends the doom broadcast out they mess up. For example in holidays when our network was mostly shut down they were fine but there was no easy way to trace the device/software on the network. 1

For now everything works fine, but will continue to monitor the issue for another couple of days. If there will be any deviations from the regular operations, I will report. I have 6 of this printers and the have been experiencing this issue one after another. I have two printers that are behaving much like everyone else despite the fact that the worked for over a year and then both started acting up on the same day. Has anyone figured out what causes the problem to appear (I've read folks think it's network traffic of some type) Thanks in advance

Meanwhile, i've got a solution that, at least, keeps the user satisfied: set a ping to the printer with the -t modifier, so it's receiving a "wake up" every second. Not a final solution but it works! Ping xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx -t Hi That (ping -t) was what we used to help diagnose with HP and sadly it didnt prevent the problem occurring for us.

As a friend of mine is about to purchase one off these en will look upon me for getting it to work, i wonder if the latest officially release firmware fixed this issue or that i will need the beta firmware.
