ninjabeaver Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 Wow, this would be amazing if it becomes available. BBC NEWS | Science & Environment | How to fit 300 DVDs on one disc
Haptic Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 I want some , then i can put my bond collection on one disk lol
Michael Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 I'm all for innovation, especially with Blu-ray films ranging anywhere between £15 - £20 each and the industry complains about piracy. It's good to see costs are being looked at from the development stage and not only on the capacity of a disc. Apparently Blu-ray can scale upto 200GB per disc eventually without any firmware upgrade. It's all to do with layers.
sidewinder Posted May 22, 2009 Posted May 22, 2009 Considering affordable blu-ray recording is still a few years away, something like this in the distant future doesnt really excite me tbh
Fridge Posted May 22, 2009 Posted May 22, 2009 Could you imagine trying to write 300 movie names on the disk with a CD pen! You would need a small note pad to accompany each disk ^^

ascott2 Posted May 22, 2009 Posted May 22, 2009 Considering affordable blu-ray recording is still a few years away, something like this in the distant future doesnt really excite me tbh At Bluewater only a couple of months ago every blu-ray £9.44. I think its up to £12 now but still a good deal, in comparison to most places.
tmcd35 Posted May 22, 2009 Posted May 22, 2009 Why would anyone want this tech for movies? Seriously, we are in the early days of IPv6, 50mb+ Broadband, WiMAX, Virgin Media OnDemand, Tiscali TV via Broadband, AppleTV, PS3 and XBox360 media streaming. We even have 3D games moving to an online streaming world (OnLive, et al). By the time this tech matures to market - let alone get down to a mainstream price point - streaming media would have completely won the format (non-)war. Sounds like my ZX81 programs stuffed onto a C90 cassette waaaaaaay back when! I remember trying to use C120's
