WINXP SP3 sysprep

Hi all

 

I have a room full of Fujitsu Siemens Scienic Edition X102 to clone. I have installed winxp sp3 and all the software required on one machine and then syspreped it. When I ghost the image back to the same machine winxp starts the mini setup process (with the WINXP logo and rolling dashes) and then crashes. The logo stays on screen but is courupt and I have to reboot. Its as if the basic vga driver is courupt.

 

Any ideas how to solve?

I'm not 100% sure if it's possible (before the Sysprep blue screen), but have you tried pressing F8 and selecting VGA mode?

Try ghosting it onto another machine, I had that problem before where oddly enough it turned out to be the HDD, as it must have written the data back onto the drive slightly differently, and the hard drive was on the way out and part of the image appeared corrupted, but it was actually the hard drive in the machine causing it. The image worked perfectally on another machine.

Im still having problems with SP3 sysprep, so I have attached an image that shows where it falls over. Anyone seen this before?

Any ideas on how to solve.

I would say it's most likely a graphics card problem which is displaying the graphics like that. And I can't say I have seen it happen before.

 

If you extract the hard drive and install it on another identical machine, does it load correctly (the XP logo and then Mini Setup). It can happen that you choose a machine which isn't working 100% to create an image. It happened to me a while ago that sods law I chose a machine where the sound card didn't work, but the drivers were installed correctly. It's only until i switched the hard drive that it all made sense

I have been having problems with machines that have been ghosted with with windows xp sp3 as well. I had the same problems with sysprep and have to use newsid but I cannot access my computers properties unless I boot in safe mode with networking.

 

At the moment I am using my images with sp2 and then installing sp3 afterwards.

 

If anyone has any good solutions please could you let me know.

I had this once before on a PC with 2 Graphics Cards (one onboard and one PCI) where half way through the boot it switched to the other card but the screen was frozen

are you sure you have the latest sysprep ? older versions can cause problems on SP3 installations

that might be the case, I've never had problems with syspreping SP3 machines but I always used the deploy package for SP3.

Well if you want to be certain you're using XP SP3 Sysprep, you can download it here or extract it from an XP SP3 CD.
