Windows Server 2008 Login Screen

We have a farm on 10 terminal servers - all running Windows 2008 Server x32.

 

Has anybody had any joy in changing the Windows Server 2008 Enterprise logo at the bottom of the login screen to something else?

 

Ideally we would like to make a logo to go on each server saying "Terminal Server 1" "Terminal Server 2" etc so should the staff or students have an issue with a piece of software when they are logged into one and not the other they can they report which server they are having the issue on.

 

Hope you understand what I am after.

Im pretty certain you can't, unless you severly modify the GINA, something you don't want to be doing on TS's

 

You could always use bginfo - but this will only display when the user is logged in.

You could use BGInfo to display the computer name as well as other information (of your choice).

For interest you can look up msgina hacking but you aren't allowed to do it under the licence terms (I'm sure i've read that) and it's a bit risky on a production box.

Ever since Windows Vista/Server 2008 GINA's do not exist! Microsoft have completely locked out any logon screen changing facilities without installing dodgy replacement system files.

Not completely, but it's not far off.

 

They weren't exactly forthcoming with the XP GINA either - no APIs and a lot of the info you use to do it was reverse engineered etc.

I did change my vista logon desktop using stardock logon studio: Stardock.com - Your Edge In Software

 

Not sure if its any use on 2008 though..

It can be done. As stated MS didn't provide any documentation for altering it it's basically hacking the files it's changed a bit in later OS's but it will be possiblem but not supported.

With the XP way you were replacing system files with dodgy versions that you had hacked.

We use BGInfo on our XP workstations. There is an option to add info to the logon screen; we add the computer name and an AUP. There is also an option for the Logon Terminal Server wallpaper. I'm not certain it would work with Server 2008, but definitely worth a go.
