VGA to USB convertor

Ok, It's stupid time again.

I have a laptop on which the VGA out has failed. I have bought a VGA to USB convertor to try to circumnavigate the problem but I cannot for the life of me get the thing to work.

This is a laptop connected to an interactive whiteboard.

 

I have taken the graphics options back to single monitor but no luck.

Do I have to disable something (graphics?) to get it to work?

And having got it to work, can I make it work with the whiteboard (both displays at once)?

 

Please help me in words of one syllable

If the GPU is faulty then I doubt you will get any output even using a convertor as I'm sure the GPU still needs to process for you to obtain any output even via a vga to usb.

 

arh just realised you are getting output to the laptop screen is that correct , if so then the gpu wont be faulty , my bad

this is true however I have come across laptops where the onboard display to the main tft is fine but the vga output is damaged or not all the pins are attached or something is wrong or faulty with the vga output ( the one you use to attach a secondary display ) so its not un common and if this is the case then a convertor wont help you at least not until you get it repaired.

I have had this problem and did after lots af swearing get it to work

 

what make is your convertor ( i had to download different drivers from net) the cd that came with it never worked

Did you ever get this to work. I've got a laptop with a failed vga output. Laptop screen ok just won't display to smartboard. Are these any good?

Looking to redeploy the laptop where external video is not necessary. But an alternative to the VGA socket would on paper seem to be an easier option.

Isn;t it really a usb to vga device you've bought? you are not converting a vga signal to a usb one are you?

we've used these adapters at our school.

 

there should be some software to install to get it working and in the software, controls to mirror/clone the display

 

We used the Videk USB to VGA adapter from here:

We do find however if someone is plugging in multiple usb devices it does not work well.
