sparkeh Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 Ok I need to urgently install Authorware Player for an ECDL test. (thanks for the early heads up from the college running the course ) I need to sign up with Adobe to get the installer to dish out to the machines but the Adobe sign up page: Licensing and deployment of the Authorware Web Player tells me that I need to install flash (is installed) and enable javascript (is enabled) so I can't get to the sign up page. So, can someone please test the sign up page above to check whether its me having the problem or the site? Also, I have an Adobe ID already that is associated with the Flash redistributable, is it possible to add the Authorware player via the account tools, I can't see that I can but the Adobe site is mind bending so perhaps I can? TIA
mossj Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 Same message that you get.... although I might not actually have flash have you tried (re)installing from that link? 1
sparkeh Posted May 7, 2009 Author Posted May 7, 2009 Same message that you get.... although I might not actually have flash have you tried (re)installing from that link? Yeah same thing, also I notice a lot of script error on the page
OutToLunch Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 Text of the page seems to suggest that you can no longer download Authorware for internal distribution? If your organization has previously distributed Authorware Player internally, direct users to the Adobe.com site for future downloads. 1
sparkeh Posted May 7, 2009 Author Posted May 7, 2009 Hmmm thanks. This is a real pain. I guess its still not legal to get hold of an offline installer and send it out...?
IrritableTech Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 (edited) I had this problem when we first started ECDL tests. It was a while ago, and this stuff is now on our clone, so it might need a tweek. I sorted it by doing the following... Get a copy of the Authorware ActiveX full installer (I forget, is this on the CD?) and use the silent switch. ECDL needs some custom AW components which will need copying to the client too. I placed these in the correct AW5.0 and AW7.0 folders within a folder called EP_components. Write and run a startup script such as this... @echo off @break off NET USE n: \\domain\netlogon /persistent:no n:\Utils\Authorware\AWAX_Full_Installer.EXE /s xcopy n:\Utils\Authorware\EP_Components\AW5.0 "C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\AUTHORWA\NP32ASW\AW50" /y xcopy n:\Utils\Authorware\EP_Components\AW7.0 "C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\AUTHORWA\NP32ASW\AW70" /y Net USE n: /del Bobs your fathers brother... SteveLaw Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 I had originally repackaged Authorware into an MSI which I thought was working but we had an issue with some CLAiT tests at one point and the Electric Paper support sent me their own msi.
sparkeh Posted May 7, 2009 Author Posted May 7, 2009 Thanks guys. I now have a solution ready to go using WPKG to install the ActiveX control, just concerned that I can't use it without having the redistribution licence.
SteveLaw Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 What what I could find on the Adobe site you can no longer GET a redistribution licence.
Michael Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 I believe Authorware was dropped a long, long time ago. Your best bet would be to search for old versions using Google. I very much doubt you'll find an MSI, but more than likely an exe of some form.
Mr.Ben Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 Try the thirdforce website, its not up now but i'm sure there are some authorware msi's available from their support section
sparkeh Posted May 8, 2009 Author Posted May 8, 2009 Thanks all. Sorted now by using wpkg to install the .exe I guess if Authorware has been dropped and the licence is not available anymore then its not a problem to redistribute.
