tmcd35 Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 Ha ha ?, Why?!? They were originally following the Greek Mythology, but then it just expanded ) They used the greek mythology theme here, until I changed it. Does my head in! Shout's of "Zues has gone down" are not funny when you desperately trying to remember which of 12 stupidly named servers hosted DNS, arrggghhhh!!!!!

Shout's of "Zues has gone down" are not funny when you desperately trying to remember which of 12 stupidly named servers hosted DNS, arrggghhhh!!!!! I can see why, when you have lots of server, that is confusing. We only have two a primary called Jupiter and a backup called Juno after Roman mythology.
Asgard Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 Each to their own...... We have just short of 30 servers and it does not get confusing - in fact it makes it easier. Especially with servers hosting multiple services and in the case of our Hyper-V array multiple servers. And all one of my team need to do is open up a spreadsheet and look by either service type (web/BMS/CCTV/voip,DNS/DHCP, etc) or even just look at the description field in active Directory. Based on some of the other replies in the thread ours are far from crazy.
Dagaz Posted October 9, 2013 Posted October 9, 2013 we name the virtual servers after people who have some sort of association with its role. eg zuse, babbage, etc. For the physical hosts as we have just moved to clustered hyper-v we went for comedy double acts. so we have mitchell and webb. armstrong and miller
witch Posted October 9, 2013 Posted October 9, 2013 Sorry..."puts on pedantic hat" It's Zeus... @bladedanny mine are called Jupiter and Juno as well
tmcd35 Posted October 9, 2013 Posted October 9, 2013 (edited) Sorry..."puts on pedantic hat" It's Zeus... Not often I'm allowed to stamp on the pedantic hat... I think it was a reference to Konrad Zuse...Konrad Zuse - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Edit: Eeek, unless you spotted my unfortunate miss-spelling further up *runs away and hides in embarrassement* Edited October 9, 2013 by tmcd35
