Thinking about making the jump

Right, i keep seeing this edugeek joomla popping up, i like the look of it, the fact it is being used else where etc but i like my baby.

 

i wrote our school site from scratch with a custom CMS in asp, and whilst i dont have the time any more, i love to say i did it etc.

 

but theres the 'what if i leave' who will do the site, the edu joomla is popular and anyone ish (it seems) can jump into it.

 

thats my story and basically what i know.

 

so what are the pros and cons?

is it php bases? if it is bugger gonna have to finally get round to learning that!

and what do ppl think of it ingeneral?

gibbo_ap: I have used joomla it is very user friendly and a lot of schools love it. You can customize it to your liking and not have a corporate template.

The main menu across the top in the new theme.

 

Its not right (all out of allignment & its a fixed width for each link)

I love the edugeek package and helped me build a site in no time at all.

 

The thing I like is that you can basically plug in your own info to get a professional looking site - when I showed SMT my site they loved it. Or conversely you can alter it as much as you like with the wealth of plugins and templates available.

 

The only thing I would note is that it could be a little intimidating if you are new to it. This is in no way a criticism of the package as there is no way round the fact that if you pick up a prebuilt package like this with no prior experience you wont understand the process behind the outcome.

Following the Joomla tutorial from the Joomla website helped me no end to understand how it works.

 

But, its sounds like you are used to CMS so won't be a big leap.
