When the BBC announced BBC HD would be on iplayer I thought great free HD programmes, no need for a dish etc.

But look at the programmes available -

Yesterday - Last of the Summer Wine

Today - Doctors

Over 2 days, 2 programmes both rubbish.

Thanks for nothing BBC!

Based on how utterly pathetic the BBC's HD rollout has been on it's HD TV Channel - you'll be lucky to get any programs at all on the iplayer!

Frankly the iPlayer aint anywhere near HD either. If your expecting a replacement for getting Freesat HD - you're gonna be dissapointed. Just becasue it says "HD" doesn't mean it is 1900x1080!

I thought the res was 720p however I'm sure the bitrate will be the problem. I tried it out with Robin Hood and it did look better than upscaled freeview. Now to get some decent content. I though HD had a specific meaning ie 720p or better or is it now a marketing term?

The BBC are keeping all their valuable HD content such as Planet Earth so they can flog it on Blu-Ray.

You would hope if they are advertising it as HD it would be at least 720p, but then some youtube videos are now in 'HD' which just means 'slightly better than the terrible standard quality'

The proper streams are 1280x720.

Actually they are marked "HQ" (high quality, presumably).

In theory, HD is a family of standards - 720p, 720i, 1080p, and 1080i - but in practice it's often subject to the usual problem of hype.
