User Network Areas and Profiles

I have always thought that the Users Areas and Profiles shouldn't be on the same server what are your ideas, thoughts, suggestions to this?

at the moment, my user profiles and user areas sit on the DC.... it would be better not to have them on the same server, but due to costing, i dont have this option....

 

But i will be looking to move the user areas and profiles as soon as i can

Important the user data and profiles are not on the same share. Windows complains if you do not disable caching on the roaming profile share, but this is required on user data shares to support offline folders.

You could use DFS if you wanted some resiliance.

I would also suggest having profiles and documents on different partitions, but it really depends on whether you want their profile to be included in their disk quota or not.

 

If you have 2003 R2, you can probably ignore this suggestion and just use the more flexible quota management tools included with that.

Our RM CC3 has work areas and profiles on the same server, but our total user base is spread over 2 servers. (3 years of pupils + support saff on one, 2 years pupils + teachers + everyone else on the other)

Yeah thats how our system is presently but I want a central repository for all users making backups easier then have a replication overnight to another server across the site as well as the usual tape backup system!
