Morning,

Has anyone ever got a discount due to Sims not doing what it says on the tin? I ask this because for the second month our data has been with the escalation team and we have been unable to use one of the facilities for 3 weeks now and 3 weeks last month. I reckon I should be entitled to 6/52 of a discount at least.

I am starting to think that Sims has taken a leaf out of the NHS book whereas they can say your problem is only a week old because they pass you around like when you go to A & E and they move you to another cubicle and the clock resets.

I just phoned them and they haven't even looked at it yet.. AFTER I LOGGED THE CALL A MONTH AGO.

Care to expand?

Client doesnt auto-update

Client doesnt manually update, or atleast reliably

Loses timetimes, as in the entire schools! the office staff absoluetly loved it when it lost it 4 days in a row and they had to manually enter it all in each time, all 1100 pupils worth!

Changes timetables

Randomly moves classes and teachers about

Randomly renames rooms

Requires users to have write access to places where they just shouldnt!

Lastest one - changes the connect.ini to point at itself so it goes round and round and round until it crashes

And thats just off the top of my head. In short it is the worst peice of software i have ever used, well behind Cachepilot that is.

Can't you just ask for a visit most of that relates to incorrect setups?

Well according to the support team it is set up correctly.

I know you mean well but tbh i cant be assed going into it. I know its nothing to do with me or my network as to why it doesnt work, and the people who we pay to fix it cant find anything wrong (ie capitas approved support team)... 5 years of it not working and ive lost interest now.

Who supports you?

No one by the sound of it!

I have sympathy. Once upon a time I was in a similar situation like this. Thankfully it was eventually resolved (only through lots of effort, running around in circles, upgrades etc etc)

What part of the country are you in?

Please feel free to contact me directly.

Some of the issues mentioned above are absolutely not to do with our software. If this were the norm I would be getting complaints hourly.

Suprising just how many people have spent hours shouting at Capita to get SIMS sorted to find the problem lied in their system - mostly with those *"£!~@#!£"! .NET updates and services packs, or lack thereof in some cases. Similar to the likes of Windows Vista - there's vary rarely a problem I come across that's related to the OS itself, but a lot of shoddy software running around/on it.

I don't use Sims so I can't really comment but have you read what it says on the tin?? Most software packages are so hedged around with exclusions that there's no guarantee of anything!

Jon Honeyball's column in the latest PC Pro pulls to pieces a Microsoft agreement which essentially promises nothing!
