Hosting Company Suggestions / Recommendations

Hello,

 

OK, so here is yet another request for recommendations for a hosting company - with a slight twist!

 

I need to find a company that can provide us with basic hosting for some smaller sub-sites of our main site. Main requirements are going to be serving a couple of .uk domains, one with a few subdomains, and one just a straight site. Storage space isn't going to be a huge issue (a few gig will be plenty) but unlimited bandwidth would be nice.

 

The biggest requirement is going to be paying for it all by invoice, ideally all together as a single lump.

 

So, any suggestions for a company that can do all that this way please!

I think cs media allow hosting of multiple domains... just have to buy the domains yourself and point them at there name servers, There packages aren't great but they are reliable and quick to respond.

Csoft.net Hosting, Inc - based over t'pond, but cheap and reliable unix hosting. I have used them for ~8 years.

Brightcode provide hosting for a range of clients - it would be worth talking to them to see what they can do; I'm sure they can provide what you need.

I've just started using Tsohost.co.uk for my hosting needs. Really cheap, with great support and a freephone UK number during (extended!) office hours.

 

They have a very interesting cluster based solution for not too much a year which I'm using. Gives you the best of both windows + linux hosting over an entire cluster of servers

Thank you, we do indeed allow multiple domains and payment via invoice isn't an issue, it's what we do for most schools.

 

I'm interested in your comment though - how could our packages be improved to make them "great"?

Just your space and maybe your bandwidth on offer is quite easy to beat when looking at other hosts.

 

For example one.com (yeah I know bad example, but one of the most extreme I can find...)

25GB space, unlimited bandwidth for £3.60 a month.

In all fairness, there is no such thing as unlimited bandwidth hence why the majority of hosts don't offer it.

 

Hosts (a lot of the smaller ones too) like to 'Risk' host - where they advertise such features but know the majority of people won't meet 25GB Disk space etc.

 

Having looked at Carl's plans they seem very reasonable to me, there are very few hosts out there offering no-frills, honest hosting like Myself and Carl.

It's known as over-selling, there is no such thing as "unlimited" bandwidth or disk space (if you read the hosts T&C's they will often have some clause in - Heart Internet comes to mind, they offer unlimited disk space/bandwidth).
