[ubuntu] Seamless Ubuntu inside Windows

Just saw this rather interesting development of the Ubuntu platform. It allows you to run a full Ubuntu enviromnent seamlessly in Windows. It shows apps individually in the Windows taskbar, can access local hard drive resources and is both persistant and portable allowing you to run any ubuntu app from inside windows just like a Windows app.

Could be really useful for development and testing if your on a Windows machine and preffer seamless access to your resources.

VirtualBox can do this for any version of Linux so long as it's running X.org 1.3 or greater. It's called seamless windows. You do need VirtualBox additions for linux installed on the guest.

I agree with the PCLOS comment - it's the best OS in the world. And that's been proven by celebrity scientists, too.

 

Or just run VNC pointing to the same machine it's running on....

i think you can, but the host OS ram will be come rather limited, depends what version of Windows!

just out of interest, can the linux wifi progs like kismet etc take full advantage of the wifi card when run in this way?

Here's a cunning thought, running portable ubuntu out of Dropbox - Home - Secure backup, sync and sharing made easy.

Looks very neat. Might give it a whirl later but yes it is a shame its ubuntu

 

Edit: Ahh looking into it, it used coLinux, and afaik that does run on x64 (Last time i checked was a good 6 months ago)
