External access to CMIS Eportal??

We have a nice shiny new Facility/CMIS server set up, and now want to allow external access. The local address is http://nn.nn.nn.nn:8080/eportal. I have asked SWGfL to open a port to allow access to it. Because it is on port 8080 they won't allow it, claiming it could be used for running a proxy...

 

So how have others set this up? SWGfL are telling me that others are using ports 80 and 443 for access with a DNS of eportal.schoolname.county.sch.uk - how does this work?

 

All (legal and/or moral!) suggestions welcome.

 

Oh, and we need it set up for after Easter!!

isa will happily port redirect when you publish the site.

 

so will most other firewalls for that matter.

Port redirection is probably your best bet, but if you wanted to run on port 80 internally as well as externally, it's possible to set up IIS to listen on port 80 and redirect requests to the Tomcat server running on 8080.

In settings.xml, you can change tomcat to run on port 80

I would configure IIS to run with ePortal. We have a doc on how to achieve this which is on the first line site.

 

Are you using 2003 or 2008 on your eportal box? The document only covers 2003 (IIS6) but if you want 2008 (IIS7) configuring, we're happy to do that with you remotely.

If you have 2003, give support a ring, they'll send you the doc, if you have 2008 email me directly on [email protected] and we'll get it done.

 

The default port for IIS using http is port 80 and using SSL (https) is 443. So you won't need to change any ports in IIS.

We're doing this as well - we're using Apache as a reverse proxy on a different box rather than IIS.

If you logon to Serco's Firstline system their knowledgebase has articles relating to this.

IIS(Internet Information Services) needs to be configured on your server. This will drop the 8080 from your URL. This will be acceptable for your ISP provider to supply you with a forward facing IP address. This can be altered in DNS to read similarly to what you mention

Well, whaddaya know, all the instructions are in C:\\Facility\Documents\eportal_help.htm.

 

Followed these, and got it set up in ten minutes flat!
