Adobe Flash wants to be reinstalled every time

I've noticed a weird problem on my home PC lately. It seems everytime I want to play a Flash Video movie, YouTube, iPlayer etc. The webpage tells me I need to reinstall Flash. I've noticed this in both FF3.0.7 and IE7.

 

It installs fine and then plays, but it needs to be reinstalled again everyday!

 

Any ideas what could be causing this?

 

EDIT: Seems to be everyday, as opposed to every restart of the browser.

I had something similar a while back.

There is a tool on the adobe site to completely remove all flash installs, I ran that then did then installed the latest flash and it's survived several upgrades to flash without recurring.

Right, I thought this issue was fixed, I downloaded the Flash Uninstaller and reinstalled all the latest versions. However, I still get messages on YouTube, BBC iPlayer etc saying I dont have Flash installed when it clearly is!

 

Any ideas? The issue is affecting only Firefox but not IE7 anymore. I have downloaded Flash for Firefox soooo many times it's getting silly!

I've checked about:plugins on both my home PC (where the issue occurs) and on my work PC (where the problem doesn't occur) and an Adobe Flash Player entry of any sort does not appear in the list. The only Adobe related items there are Adobe Reader and Shockwave Flash.

It's the Shockwave Flash one I was referring to; it should show you the correct version for what you're running and if it's there god only knows why you don't have working flash

 

Martin, very welcome; you might like about:config but be careful with the warning it issues!

I knew about about:config - there are some useful tweaks to speed up things over broadband (e.g. pipelining).

 

I wonder if there are any more "about:"s?
