Combining documents into one.

Hi.

Im just in the process of documenting our network here, and theres ALOT of parts to it, all in different programs.

 

Does anyone know of a way to do these two things

 

1) Print all 61 files (pdfs, visio, excel, word, publisher, ect; ) into one large PDF file?

 

2) In regards to the word files, does anyone know how i can 'globally' apply a font/size/formatting type thing to all the word files so they all look the same?

Not sure on the best way to accomplish this. You can download this:

Download details: 2007 Microsoft Office Add-in: Microsoft Save as PDF or XPS

and convert your word and excel to pdf. I think there is a 2003 version as well. There is a pdf combining tool here:

PDF995 is free: pdf 995: create PDF documents easily for free

 

Install all the parts and it's easy-peasy. I've just merged 140 separate 1 page documents into 1!

Select all 61 files press delete and empty your recycle bin the single file will then be on your desktop

 

On a serious note the software others suggested will do the trick.

You could purchase the full fat version of adobe acrobat - but as has been said above the PDF995 should work.

Use styles.

 

It may not be easy to add them now; it depends on how the documents were created. If there's lots of formatting applied without using styles it can be hard to get it right but if you can select everything, set it to "normal" and then just add heading1, heading2 etc to the headings then you quickly get stuff looking consistent.

I have a macro that will put all the word documents in a directory into one big file. You could then change the font etc to what you want and then convert to a pdf. I use it to put all our individual reports from SIMs in year groups to one file.
