Multi-port PoE injector

I'm currently waving wireless network proposals at my manager in an effort to get a whole-site managed wireless network system in to replace our 'hotspots' that exist at the moment. One thing I want to include is PoE injectors.

 

As our site has a half a dozen cabinets, I would prefer not to have half a dozen single port PoE injectors in each cabinet. So, I am looking for a 4 - 6 port midspan 802.3af power injector device of some form. I've found ones that are 12 port and 24 port but these are too expensive and have too many ports (we're never going to want that many PoE ports).

 

So, can anyone point me in the direction of a suitable device?

Thanks for that, but it can't be an actual switch/hub. It has to just be an injector.

@localzuk: How did you get on with that PoE injector and would you recommend CMS? I ask because I'm looking for a multi port injector myself and I can only find single port types from my usual suppliers.

Our wireless roll-out was put on hold (joy) and I've only just started ordering part of it. So, I haven't as yet ordered the PoE injector! Will probably look at buying it around April time myself now.

I was looking at replacing a mess of cables plugged in to multiple single PoE injectors a few months ago, but needed a fanless (24-port or so) PoE switch as this is to go in an office where people work. Only needed 3 or four PoE ports, though, so one of those multi-port injectors would have done nicely. Does anyone have a current, working link to the product on CMS' website (the URL given simply takes me to their home page), or does anyone know the make / model number or similar?

I would 2nd PowerDsine, they are well worth the money.

One thing I would say about the Planet PoE injectors: my current school used to run its entire network on Planet switches, but replaced them all about 3 years ago after an inordinate number of them experienced power supply failures.

 

It was before my time, so I can't give a personal testimony, but I'd be wary about using them. I know the consultant who specified the replacements (HP ProCurve) absolutely hates Planet switches now, and I can't say I blame him.

@ AngryTechnician: Thanks for the heads up on the planet kit. It's always a consern when using an unknown brand if it will last or not.

 

So it looks like I'm back to using single injectors but luckily I've only got 2 APs which need PoE and I see Misco stock a 3Com model 3Com POE Single Port Midspan Solution - Misco.co.uk which looks like it will do the job.

Got a few PLANET POE-2400 and POE-1200's running here now. Easy to set up and install. Well priced as well. THey are only a few months old so can't comment on the lifespan of them but my installer seems to use them all the time, and they've done some really big installs.

We've had good experiences with the Phihong injectors, can't recall immediately where we sourced them though (can check at work on Monday if needed). One thing to make sure though, is that whatever you go for is Gigabit compatible - some of the cheaper ones aren't always (not much of an issue if you're going for 802.11g, but if you're looking at Ruckus or other 802.11n based kit, it's worth bearing in mind).

I've been slowly evicting the planet switches from my network as well - only got one left now as far as I know, unless there's any hiding away in un-known locations anywhere.
