Technician / Senior Technician / Network Manager, what would be best?

As the thread title suggests really, what position would you think fair better under bsf and the tuping process?

 

What title would you want, ICT Technician, Senior Technician, Network Manager, ICT Manager, etc etc? SIMS Manager??

 

I suppose it will vary.. but any thoughts, or experience?

How about, "Master of the Technological Future".

 

I'm not sure where that that would fit in the current borough pay scale though

Surely it would be wholly dependent upon the type of role/duties you undertake?

It's also highly dependent on how much of the workforce the BSF MSP have committed to keeping on. If your council has guaranteed all tech staff will keep their jobs in their contract, then you should be relatively safe.

 

If not, I would imagine that managers are the ones most likely to face Gordon Brown's axe.

 

From what I've seen it seems to vary a lot with different BSF projects. If the P4S BSF propaganda is anything to go by, you might end up as a "Team Leader" which means you get an extra star on your badge. Woo yay.

well, i'm not entirely sure what my job title should be i must admit

 

thought i'd look into it a bit, and see if i could change my title to suit for a better future.. with additional work if needbe

 

currently i manage pretty much all of sims, curriculum, admin, vle, etc

i have an apprentice who sorts out small jobs, supervised by myself

 

we have a windows server network (now moving to 2008) with ranger for networks being the only educational network software (we use it for webtracking and thats about all - really want to switch to something that doesn't limit things so much!)

 

we also have three satellite offices in three other schools, i also look after them both remotely and when someone needs to visit in person. each office has its own small 2003 network. techs in the host schools have nothing to do with our kit, though could be handy sometimes!

 

only thing i don't really look after is our broadband, as it's lea provided.

 

but, we're a small school.. so only 200ish pcs and laptops in total and half a dozen servers supporting them all!

Out of interest Zoom - were you a tech or a network manager before tupe? And has your money gone down or up or same?

Whatever you decide as a job title, salary, benefits and job description whatever you do do not change it after TUPE. When you change one thing after TUPE you loose all teh protection offered under the TUPE agreement. So as a sly way to make to redundant teh TUPE company might offer you a promotion and then a P45 6 months later. Consult teh union if you are in one. if not then join now.
