Virtual machine seems to be the quickest way for me. Just creat you VM and when you've done making the msi etc, just close it down without commiting any changes to the Virtual Disk.

Have you used Virtual PC?

There are undo disks setup options. whereby any changes made to the image can be deleted..

It is basically how we do it. Using VMWare, once the build machine is setup take a snapshot & that is our clean station. Make the package & revert to snapshot, allocate package, test and revert. All ready for the next package. Any updates you can take a new snapshot.

 

Out of interest how did Photoshop need to be allocated?

I'd personally aviod using the application wizard to package whenever possible, many apps now ship with msi's or admin install instructions where sitches or .ini files are used produce something which will easily install and just as importantly uninstall from workstations.

I had an old system manager who insisted on always using the application wizard to produce applications and as the list slowly built the words (install failed & uninstall failed) became more and more common on the stations. She even managed to package up a bit of adware with one application which was then deployed site wide.
