Ok, I'm still trying to find the perfect database (in between hunting for the Holy Grail & a cure for cancer) for holding Inventory, Helpdesk jobs, Knowledge Base, etc.

What do you use, and how do you find it in operation?

Personally, I'm trialling GLPI after trying to build a homegrown Access DB, but I have to use an external host for GLPI as the Managed Service won't let me put PHP/MySQL on the main server! :(

Looking for a call logging system myself. I've found nothing on sourceforge that's really suitable. I want a really simple interface for logging calls for users that's all. the rest would be a bonus.

Yup - Job Managers good 8) *trys to hide his MST hat...*

Liberum is pretty good for webbased helpdesk.

Also Track-it if you've got the cash.

Thanks Diello - that looks great!

Shame it's IIS - I'd prefer a LAMP solution :(

I'm thinking of creating something (to flex and recall my php/sql - or lack of - skills) that also will double up as a asset database.

Gonna revive my old NT4 DC and wipe it and put linux on it - we have (powys has) a in-house customised version which sets up all the relevent stuff like MySql, apache, etc. but if there is some open source thing that'll do all this on this linux box, please point a nice link in my direction :D

Cheers,

N.

I've just started designing my own web based system to handle helpdesk, resource requests, asset management, basic user tracking, user desktop and even deploying apps in conjunction with our RIS 2003 roll outs.

It's still far from finished, but I'm tweaking and adding to it constantly - just added shutdown and wake on lan options, so seeing how that goes.
