Looking at those Sysman. I've now got to source 38 for Lesson Monitor - these [the P4 521 2.8] with the cash back are the same price I paid for the DX5150s last month. Shame my school couldn't decide on both sets together, 56 would have taken us to the quantity HP would've started talking deals over.

Shame these are intels where the DXs are AMDs - and I presume the monitors, although chucked in for free, still don't have more than 1 years warranty.

Insight's best 'account manager' price for the same thing is £618.17. Misco @ £595 are £880 cheaper for 38.

HP ain't interested really in deal of less than 100 PCs now, I tried 50 last summer and they were really were hard work to get a decent price. When I told them ebuyer were cheaper on retail pricing for the same goods they soon changed there tune once i e-mailed the link to my account manager, but after the meeting I had the other week with a former HP / Compaq employee I am never touching HP workstations again! To sum it up quickly, HP are outsourcing it slowly, and are aiming to do like IBM have done with Lenovo, so the same thing basically, so your HPs may not be HP's they may be brand X from Japan or something.

Brand X from Japan ???

You should be so lucky. More likely to be from Vietnam, China or Taiwan.

Japan is way too high cost for PC manufacturers these days.

Most HP for the European market is made in Czech Republic. IBM is brand name of (Chinese) Lenovo. Dell are assembled in Ireland but are looking to move out to eastern Europe soon.

Good ol' British vendors, well ... just heard that Elonex went into administration today... I guess that just leaves RM and Viglen.

I would not mind to see the end of RM/Viglen. Although it might leave some schools rather stuck without a paddle. In the long run it will do them good.

From past experience NEC seem to have no concept of weight, ive got plenty of 1/2/3 year old versas from several series here and they all weigh a ton. Saying that, ive had very little fault with them.

I must admit, most of the dells I have worked on recently don't say made in Ireland any more, they are made in India, Czech Republic or the far east so I suspect a lot has gone that way from Dell already.

Most of my present HPs are from the C Repub, you can tell that by the fact that the serial number starts CZC as thats the country of manufacture (I had a list of the others somewhere but cannot find it anymore). But they are not making money from Workstations, its the imaging stuff and Servers that are making money so don't expect the best kit in the future from HP is what I am expecting.

Suits me. Makes em harder to nick and the Powermates that we have (VL5s, VL350s) are somewhat more robust feeling than the HP DX5150s we have.
