john Posted January 22, 2012 Posted January 22, 2012 I've given over patching mine as it usually ends in doom and gloom whenever I touch my SANs
PRicho Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 Finally on this latest release after a few SAN issue, the support I have had from Oracle has been fantastic! - This update took 3hrs to complete on our 7210 1
Hanson Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 one more question Want monitoring my storage7110 in Zabbix, but for that need MIB's. Can some one help me ?
edubidu Posted May 30, 2012 Posted May 30, 2012 (edited) Just found a "The service processor needs to be reset to ensure proper functioning" SOURCE: svc:/appliance/kit/akd:default, REV: 1.0 DESC: The service processor has stopped responding to requests. AUTO-RESPONSE: None. IMPACT: Features that depend on service processor functionality, including hardware inventory, LED control, and fault diagnosis, will not function correctly while the service processor is in this state. REC-ACTION: Restart the service processor. Contact your service provider if the problem persists. I've this problem every 3 or 4 months on a sun storage 7310. Done a firmware update on release 2010.Q3.4.0, but still the same problem. When it happens a week-end without quick intervention on the GUI to reset this, I must hard reset the server monday morning... Does somebody know what's going wrong?? Edited May 30, 2012 by edubidu
teejay Posted May 30, 2012 Posted May 30, 2012 Get onto Oracle support, it really is something they should be looking at. It could possibly be the motherboard, we had one where the SP failed on it.
edubidu Posted May 30, 2012 Posted May 30, 2012 Great, we don't have support contract for this storage
teejay Posted May 30, 2012 Posted May 30, 2012 Oh, you need to make sure you've got good backups then or deep pockets to re-instate your support contract with Oracle. 1
Duke Posted May 30, 2012 Posted May 30, 2012 It might be worth trying the very latest release. I used to get that error on my S7410 quite regularly, but haven't had it in ages. I'm on 2010.08.17.4, but not sure what that is in 'readable' version numbers. Chris
edubidu Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 (edited) I finally found something on the oracle support pages, I don't want to post the whole article cause it is published for oracle support customers. Found it on support.oracle.com - You need to log-in Issue: Sun Storage 7000 Unified Storage System: Service Processor (SP) Issues Just to resume: Cause: A number of CRs for memory leaks on the Service Processor (...) The reasons for these variations are not known at this time. Solution: Reset Service processor via GUI manually each time the problem occurs and open a Service Request for remote SP BIOS upgrade by an Oracle Support engineer. Edited May 31, 2012 by edubidu
Duke Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 Oh yeah, I remember an engineer coming in now to do the BIOS update. Nice guy and it all went smoothly - not something I'd want to do myself though.

Hmmm, I did a firmware update last august, this was really not complicated. I'll do another one in a month or two, if it helped to solve the problem I'll post it here.
Duke Posted June 1, 2012 Posted June 1, 2012 Hmmm, I did a firmware update last august, this was really not complicated. I'll do another one in a month or two, if it helped to solve the problem I'll post it here. This was the BIOS update, not just a normal Fishworks firmware update. You have to boot into the Service Processor, run a BIOS update from there, and the engineer also changed some of the settings in the BIOS that I can't remember off-hand. I'm not sure if it was this or a firmware upgrade that fixed my SP issues, but I'd lean towards the former. Might be worth getting someone out if you still get problems, although it's all done through lights out manager so could be done remotely.
