They explained that they have a large amount, without telling me the actual amount, of money and what would I like to buy this week as it has to be spent. I have suggested buying more ink carts and maybe projector bulbs which they are happy about but have asked if I have anything else I need Anyone think of anything exciting I should get?

Jiser Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 50 " monitor x 2, expensive coffeeee machine, a slide, if you are upstairs above a server room - a pole like fireman have down to it, 100's of IP cameras in all computer rooms, new servers and computers. Network management software which detects alot through 'traps' - well in theory anyway. So you no longer have to get off your chair unless you have to collect a machine to fix it.

WIN Speak to dell or HP rep about disk-disk , they'll give you a rundown of the stuff available for your size of backup

Just put in proposals for some new servers (including a SAN and virtulisation stuff), a load of new desktops and a plan to implement Smoothwall. Now I'm just waiting to see what they're actually going to agree to purchase!

Any ballpark figures? Thanks When I was looking at it for our school we were probably looking at anywhere from £10k - £20k depending on which access points we went for. Unfortunately SMT aren't interested in blanket wireless coverage at the moment! 1

reggiep Posted March 17, 2009 Author Posted March 17, 2009 OK, we are running two seperate domains one for admin one for curric. We are about to upgrade to one domain, well to be completed during the Summer hols. I have money already to buy two servers and some software and pay to have work done on those servers. We have a mac suite and a mac server with a DAS device with 4 TB HDs. We are currently running RM CC3 on the curric servers but not likeley to with new set up, Perhaps I need to look at software that I might need to replace CC3 functionality? We are currenly backing up data to tape drives on the servers but I'd quite like to move to an alternative system. Maybe SAN? We currently have no system to see what students have been doing on the web as the authority provide us with netsweeper which can't go down to individual level. I'm sure I have more info to give but I can't think of any at the moment!
