Accessing Printer on other network.

In my schools(primary) we have 2 physically separate networks for admin and curriculm.

 

They are no real servers on either networks.

 

Can people suggest easy/cheap ways of allowing printing to a schools photocopier that is networked onto the admin network from the curric network.

 

I do this in one school as a curric win98 pc is near enough the photcopier to connect it via parallel and share it out that way but I've got others that aren't physically near the curric network/machines.

 

Any solution needs to be defensible against "concerned" LEA Admin network support

 

(One day, I will meet a member os staff/year6 pupil able and willing to hack into SIMS and bring the universe to an end - but maybe not this year )

I would have thought you would need a dual honed machine with a presence on both networks and share the printer on that. Not sure that would go down to well though. My mail server is on both networks since thats the only sensible way for everyone to connect to it.

I'd do it with a Linux box running CUPS with two network cards sitting on both networks.

Thats what I do, dual honed server, I have both servers and workstations now that are dual honed, makes life easier for all concerned and saves on servers etc.

 

One other thing you could try is, does the copier have a network connection, if it does you can print straight to its IP address normally, so you could use that for one LAN and the Parallel port to a PC for the other

I think you need to get 2 network points to the copier, and a cheap PC, dual network card it, one to each network and parallel the copier to that machine, job done.
