Old RM laptops

We have some old RM Laptops, 1.6 Ghz that are 5 years old, 512 Ram, inbuilt wifi etc.

 

How much would you sell them for, we have 15 or so with powerleads but would have to be reformatted as they are built for CC3.

 

Looking to sell maybe as a lot but what my boss suggested, I think is too cheap.

Just be careful, I'm fairly sure there are some rules about reselling windows. Especially if you've got a VLK.

 

You could sell them with No O/S installed, or chuck a linux flavour on it.

 

On a related note we're now selling off some old RM pcs with monitor etc. Chucking XUBUNTU on them (new HDD for data protection laws). All ok-ed with SLT, finance and County so looks to be a go-er. Plan is to sell them dirt cheap to families who would not normally be able to afford a PC.

I would value them at about £50 each. Without Windows, probably about £40 each.

 

Remember you'll need to charge VAT when you sell them too

Relative in a primary school bought one the same spec from where she is for 35quid. We've got some relatively similar spec to that but 256ram that we've been upgrading with 1GB sticks and giving them to staff who havent got a laptop.

They sound like they would maybe make nice thin clients. Maybe £500 as a job lot?

Surely the laptops will have OEM licenses with them? In that case Windows can be installed. Can't see why they would need new HDD's though - just run KillDisk or something.

I chatted to our county helldesk about this and they said all HDDs with school data need to be certified as destroyed. I even suggested I could run DBAN or similar over them but that wasn't good enough... they want proof of data destruction.
