Guest richard Posted June 6, 2006 Posted June 6, 2006 I'm having problems burning the iso to disk. Everytime I try and do it in Roxio it tells me its an invalid format I have also tried copying it on my mac but have had the same problem.
petectid Posted June 6, 2006 Posted June 6, 2006 Is the image good, did it come with an Md5 checksum if so run it to see if its okay.
Guest richard Posted June 6, 2006 Posted June 6, 2006 There is no Md5 checksum in the zip files that people are hosting.
OutToLunch Posted June 6, 2006 Posted June 6, 2006 The MD5 checksum for the file extracted from my copy of the zip file is : 662991b1936897d1332e43824e40dc9e *MSLNM.iso HTH
Guest richard Posted June 6, 2006 Posted June 6, 2006 The checksum matches but when I try and burn it I keep getting to that it is not a valid disc image.
OutToLunch Posted June 6, 2006 Posted June 6, 2006 Have you checked you can actually burn ISO files with your version of Roxio and not just whatever their proprietary image format is? Try BurnAtOnce - freeware simple ISO burner, works happily here. http://www.afterdawn.com/software/cdr_software/cdr_applications/burnatonce.cfm
petectid Posted June 6, 2006 Posted June 6, 2006 Download a trial version of Nero this will burn ISO images, do not know much about Roxio software and ISO images.
OutToLunch Posted June 6, 2006 Posted June 6, 2006 Hmm, no edit button? Hold fire on BurnAtOnce - sure I burned my copy using it but just burned an extra to make sure and it doesn't seem too happy. I'll have to check it wasn't just an iffy burn.
Guest richard Posted June 6, 2006 Posted June 6, 2006 I've just tried to do it with K3b on my laptop and I still get the same message.
CyberNerd Posted June 6, 2006 Posted June 6, 2006 IIRC I had the same problem with K3B - I put it down to microsofts inability to implement open standards such as iso9660. Along with the other comments about LNM it managed to put me off trying any further
ico2 Posted June 6, 2006 Posted June 6, 2006 In linux (or unix) (if you have it, i assume you do if running k3b), use the file utility on it (open a terminal and run "file nameofiso.iso") paste the output here
Guest richard Posted June 6, 2006 Posted June 6, 2006 rshortland@Netadmin:~$ file MSLNM.iso MSLNM.iso: data
ico2 Posted June 6, 2006 Posted June 6, 2006 yeah, that isnt an iso file. just out of curiosity, run "strings -n 5 nameofiso.iso|head"
Guest richard Posted June 6, 2006 Posted June 6, 2006 rshortland@Netadmin:~$ strings -n 5 MSLNM.iso|head CD001 LNM 2005 VRMWPE_EN MICROSOFT CORPORATION MICROSOFT CORPORATION, ONE MICROSOFT WAY, REDMOND WA 98052, (425 ) 882-8080 CDIMAGE 2.52 (03 /09/2004 TM) 2005091219364700 2005091219364700 0000000000000000 0000000000000000 ULTRAISO 7.5.5.1012 /Documentation CD001 rshortland@Netadmin:~$
ico2 Posted June 6, 2006 Posted June 6, 2006 well, its a cd image, even if nothing else sees it as one, buring it directly do a cd with cdrecord in linux (cdrecord dev=/dev/nameofcdwriter MSLNM.iso), problem seems to be non-standard iso (evil microsoft), hopefully windows can read it when on a cd even if nothing else notices it is an iso due to it being a wierd format.
OutToLunch Posted June 6, 2006 Posted June 6, 2006 IsoBuster seems to load the image OK - from within IsoBuster I did a CD Image extraction to bin/cue, then burned that. Seems to work ok - actually burnable and readable after the burn...
OutToLunch Posted June 6, 2006 Posted June 6, 2006 hopefully windows can read it when on a cd even if nothing else notices it is an iso due to it being a wierd format. The cygwin based Windows ports of cdrecord burn it ok but create an unreadable CD. Something very odd with that ISO!
ico2 Posted June 6, 2006 Posted June 6, 2006 blame microsoft!!! maybe either isobuster will convert it or linux will mount it with "mount MSLNM.iso /somerandomdirectory/ -o loop -t iso9660 if you specify the type as iso9660, you may have more luck than without, perhaps it is readable but not detectable as an iso. if you can do that then mkisofs /somerandomdirectory/ -o newiso.iso now burn the iso and it might work. if all else fails run: while(true); do echo "your software sucks" | mail [email protected]; done

ico2 Posted June 6, 2006 Posted June 6, 2006 Geoff: yeah, file doesnt recognise it as an iso (probably the fault of m$) Dont think it is a bad download or anything, most zip utilities will fail to extract all together if the zip file is damaged at all.
Guest richard Posted June 6, 2006 Posted June 6, 2006 Just tried to mount the iso and got the following: rshortland@Netadmin:~$ sudo mount -o loop -t iso9660 MSLNM.iso /home/rshortland/iso mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/loop0, missing codepage or other error In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try dmesg | tail or so rshortland@Netadmin:~$ dmesg | tail [4294728.899000] Bluetooth: RFCOMM socket layer initialized [4294728.899000] Bluetooth: RFCOMM TTY layer initialized [4294728.899000] Bluetooth: RFCOMM ver 1.7 [4298154.229000] cdrom: This disc doesn't have any tracks I recognize! ico2 Posted June 6, 2006 Posted June 6, 2006 hmm, blame m$, try IsoBuster then, havent used or heard of before, but hopefully it will help, then send angry email to the relevant address.
