browolf Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 our connection is really slow, and the primary our tech was at earlier was too. seems to be more that the initial connect is slow. dug dns queries are running around 3500ms. when the page shows up (eventually) it seems to show up pretty quick. apparently westfield are on vacation today. anyone else having problems?
jamesb Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 They forgot to grit the wires, that's all. Couple of accidental pileups on the main trunk and everything grinds to a near halt.

tech_guy Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 It's all these people stuck at home instead of work looking at crap on Youtube.
ChrisH Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 See here. News : LGfL Filtering Issues I have noticed this one. Site ok 1 minute then filtered for a strange reason the next, then works again later
browolf Posted February 5, 2009 Author Posted February 5, 2009 (edited) I have noticed this one. Site ok 1 minute then filtered for a strange reason the next, then works again later we didnt have any of that sudden filtering. it was just slow but it went ok around 3:15...for a bit but its slow again. chrbb Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 Our initial connection is really slow, home page (tried other pages - no difference) takes ages to load then connection quite swift after that. Derby city by the way.
chrbb Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 (edited) No idea. But just chirping in our internet connection speeds in case anyone else from Derby is reading and they have the same issues, even though they probably won't be in this part of the forum. No icons when editing so I'll write it instead "I'll get my coat" Edited February 5, 2009 by chrbb
SteveT Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 Not a CLEO issue as Cumbria connections fine yesterday. New filtering system (Whitelists etc) at LGfL may be the guilty party :D:D
SimpleSi Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 My main problem is that my school websites are intermittantly inaccessible - just varies - not available for 10 mins - then available again Real T'internet sites seem to just work when this happens Not a CLEO issue as Cumbria connections fine yesterday. New filtering system (Whitelists etc) at LGfL may be the guilty party Maybe time to go back to using the Cumbria proxy like we used to do in the bad old days regards Simon
Geoff Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 Maybe time to go back to using the Cumbria proxy like we used to do in the bad old days You can't do that directly anymore. LancsNGFL schools are IP blocked from the CLEO proxies. You can of course 'locate' a Cumbria school with a misconfigured proxy server, and go via that.

browolf Posted February 6, 2009 Author Posted February 6, 2009 well I was about to say it's happening again but 20mins later its fixed itself.

SteveT Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 I have just thought of a cunning plan to make some dosh selling access to Lancs schools!!
browolf Posted February 6, 2009 Author Posted February 6, 2009 im not sure the filter can be blamed for our problems. you'd think that happened after dns resolution. dns queries are usually 100ms or less, when its slow they're 3000ms +
SimpleSi Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 quickly checks proxy server for illicit access!!! I think you'll find that all your servers belong to Geoff Si PS And you wouldn't even know it
browolf Posted February 12, 2009 Author Posted February 12, 2009 apparently our net problems are because a council put up an antenna for local business net access that interferes with our microwave transmissions. Now our connection is "intermittently on", the odd email gets through from time to time but thats it all day until about 4pm! Cleo are still figuring out what to do.

I was going to ask where you were... I'm at Baines in Poulton and it sounds like you're coming off the same antenna. Apparantly, depending on your distance from the antenna, some people are getting 'intermittently on' access and some people are getting 'intermittently off' access. Sucks, doesn't it? 1
browolf Posted February 13, 2009 Author Posted February 13, 2009 yeah we prob are on the same system. ours has been on so far today.
browolf Posted February 27, 2009 Author Posted February 27, 2009 we've been connected to the local dsl/fibre loop connected to the primaries but now there's the problem our amount of traffic is maxing out the connection at times. Not wildly surprised there. Word is they're gonna try our microwave on a completely different frequency or if that doesnt work, sort us out with our own copper line temporarily.
