Are any schools in Durham sticking with the DLG and if not who are people going with?

We're currently DLG, but are looking at possible alternatives - and DLG know that too.

 

Moodle is our tool of choice so far - if you want to know anything just drop me a PM.

I am sure you can choose to opt out, but I would imagine there is a x months notice you need to give before you can pull out, therefore I would think you may have missed the boat to pull out in the 09/10 financial year.

If Sylv3r is right, then the other option you have is to run with it for a year whilst you research/implement a different solution, ready for next year.

 

It even gives you time to get staff training out the way.

I think you need to be careful with that approach. If you train them all on Sharepoint for example and then move to Frog much of the training becomes irrelevant. I know some of it is still useful but the mechanics of using the VLE will be different.

The thing is, DLG does not take much training because it doesn't do much - and definately nothing interactive - it's all navigation, that's all.

 

Where as training for Moodle (or other) will take some doing because it does things that a VLE should be doing. That's why if you start the training as soon as possible, and tell staff we have a year to get used to this before we switch the old one off, things should run pretty smoothly.

 

I know it's hard to make such a big step, but if you can get the SMT and a few good teachers on board (who can demo how good their courses look and work) then other staff will follow suit. You're always gonna have a handful of people trailing behind - this can't be helped.

 

The message that you have to get across is that you're doing this to help them, not to make things harder, and with a little effort on their part they will benefit greatly.
