robinm Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 Hi, I was wondering if anyone knew of any software that would allow me to rename files containing characters like Σ Ω Λ etc. Pupils have been naming files using these symbols and it is causing problems! Thanks!
LeMarchand Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 I just tried to add and remove those characters using Renamer, and it worked. 2
robinm Posted February 2, 2009 Author Posted February 2, 2009 Excellent! I'd tried quite a few and they didn't support unicode but this one works Thanks
User3204 Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 I use this: http://www.bulkrenameutility.co.uk/ It works well, you can use it to rename files using "Regular" expressions, as specified here: Regular-Expressions.info - Regex Tutorial, Examples and Reference - Regexp Patterns it says it does Unicode, although I've never used it.
mac_shinobi Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 not sure if its possible - but couldnt you just disable both ALT keys on the keyboard and dis allow the use of the windows character utility ? Not sure if they use either or both in languages ie in german etc ?

I might take a look at this, but having seen regular expressions before I don't fancy the headache not sure if its possible - but couldnt you just disable both ALT keys on the keyboard and dis allow the use of the windows character utility ? Not sure if they use either or both in languages ie in german etc ? I think they might use alt for some French characters, but I think some of them use websites to translate english characters into other characters and they just paste it as the filename. I came across the following: Σ Ω Λ Ч ➁ Я я н α ρ т ¢ and a few others I forgot to copy down! Just delete the files! Haha, but if you can't search for files with unicode characters how can you find them? Given there are 300,000 files I don't really want to search manually Luckily Renamer worked for me so I could just replace the offending characters.
