About robinm

  1. That'd be really cool. Ah if only we had time to spend on projects like that. BTW, loving the Nerd Herd avatar! Matches my Nerd Herd mug
  2. Where could one find commandreporter? I had a look on supportnet but no luck!
  3. Nothing to do with the VLE - we have SIMS webparts to take care of that. We use AD provisioning to export users from SIMS to AD. My manager said he had some idea about touch screens around the school that could display various information from SIMS (e.g. a map of the school with timetable and other information for pupils). Realistically it's never going to happen for various reasons, but it got me thinking whether it'd be possible given enough time / the right skills. Obviously the first step would be extracting the required data. CommandReporter sounds intriguing. I'd be interested in seeing your web services script when you make them public.
  4. A long shot, but has anyone ever tried writing their own software to retrieve data from the SIMS SQL db? Would I be correct in assuming that as long as we create a user with full (read only) access to the database it should be like pulling data from any SQL db?
  5. Same for me at home. Have you been using it across your network as well? Any problems at all?
  6. People are rolling out Win7 straight away?! I rate it very highly but I'm not sure I'd be that gung-ho edit: love the signature!
  7. What do you need in R2 that you don't have in the standard 2008 already? I had a look through the new features and couldn't think how any of them would be applicable to most places!
  8. "As always, current Windows Volume License customers, MSDN subscribers and TechNet subscribers will get first customer access, getting Windows 7 on August 6 (MSDN/TechNet) and August 7 (VL), and Windows Server 2008 R2 the second half of August." 9. Volume licensing shouldn't be out until tomorrow (7th Aug) I thought...?

    File renaming

I might take a look at this, but having seen regular expressions before I don't fancy the headache I think they might use alt for some French characters, but I think some of them use websites to translate english characters into other characters and they just paste it as the filename. I came across the following: Σ Ω Λ Ч ➁ Я я н α ρ т ¢ and a few others I forgot to copy down! Haha, but if you can't search for files with unicode characters how can you find them? Given there are 300,000 files I don't really want to search manually Luckily Renamer worked for me so I could just replace the offending characters.

Excellent! I'd tried quite a few and they didn't support unicode but this one works Thanks

    File renaming

Hi, I was wondering if anyone knew of any software that would allow me to rename files containing characters like Σ Ω Λ etc. Pupils have been naming files using these symbols and it is causing problems! Thanks!
