Couple of Calendar/Contacts questions

Currently running WinMo 6 with the default calendar and contacts apps (on an HTC Touch {Original}, if it makes a difference). Generally happy with both, especially with the easy syncing with Outlook. I do most of my calendar work on the HTC and tend to set events for particular times but with zero length and "free". Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be a way to set this as default. So does anyone know if it's possible (possibly a reg tweak)?

 

Failing that, can anyone recommend an alternative that is free (I'm broke), looks nice, syncs with Outlook and is easy to revert to the default calendar if I change my mind?

 

As for contacts - I came across iContact, which looks very nice. Does anyone have any experience of it?
