Do I risk it?

contink Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 Hold up... SP3 caused a few problems for us and certain WLAN NICs... I'd make sure you have a restore point available just in case as we lost the WZC option to connect with SP3 and yet the driver for the NIC works fine... It's very strange and a pain to resolve. 1

We installed it on a small number of laptops which then blue screen when you plug usb mice or printers in. Funny thing is uninstall it and reinstall straight afterwards and it seems to be ok!

ChrisH Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 I recently had to disable SP3 on our WSUS server. It works fine for everything except it stops the .Net framework and some of its updates from installing even though the .net patches claim the SP3 issue is fixed. I had to get the machine upto .net 3.5 for some Maths software and it would not let it do it with SP3 installed. Once I took it off all the patches installed and the Maths software installed. I then authorised SP3 again. So every time I rebuild a room I currently have to disable SP3, let all the patches and software load, then put it back on again. It's a pain to say the least. No other problems to report.
Michael Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 As a recommendation clean installs (slipstreaming XP SP3) is definitely the best method. I have found some driver compatibility issues but other than this everything has been ok across a whole range of hardware. Slipstreaming in my opinion has always been better than installing a service pack on top. Very similar to XP SP1 to XP SP2. If anything this was even bigger than XP SP2 to XP SP3.
