Hi,

Is it possible to represent the top level course categories on the front page of moodle with an image rather than having a text list of categories?

Cheers,

Nick

Yes - dead easy - just make a label -stick the pictures in and link them to the category/course urls

see

BroadOak as an example

totally OT but shouldn't the Latin under the clock on the homepage read Tempus Fugit not Tempest Fugit?

Can someone cast a critical eye over the frontpage and give me some feedback. I'm not a very good judge of my own work

Very nice and clean - as the saying goes - less is more :)

Love the post-it note images :)

The site is Lordswood Girls' Virtual Learning Environment Yes, agreed- it looks really good (as of course does yours SimpleSi!) Just a thought though-why not get rid of the course categories block to the left now and have a shorter screen since they all hyperlink to the postits (did you make them or where did they come from?) Or maybe you are catering for different learning styles having the words AND the images :)

SimpleSi,

Did you get those images from a free image site? Would you mind sharing where if so? I've found some places with ok looking post-it/note style images, but I've had problems keeping the image quality and putting text on to them.

Best,

Simon

OK...I'm being thick or something, but I can't seem to work out how to get a label to appear instead of the list of courses on my site. I've only just started building the site and don't have much experience of altering the look and feel of Moodle.

I've worked out how to get a label in the Main Menu block, but can't replace the course category links with images

Go to site admin>front page>front page settings and scroll down and tick where it says include topic section.Save changes and go back to your front page and turn on editing - you will get the drop down menus for such as labels there. You don;t have to put your images in a label though -you can put them in the topic summary; it amounts to the same. (I assume you know how to insert the images and link to course categories once you've got your html editor up.)

After doing this is it possible to do the same with the sub-categories and hide the default text
