Our school website (Edugeek Joomla 1.5) was hacked over the weekend and the swines have deleted the sites template folder and a few other files from the public_html.

Those were easily replaceable but I am having issues finding the template I used when I first made the site - I can't find it lurking on here either. Can anyone point me in the direction of this template.

The sooner I get it sorted the sooner the head stops breathing down my neck!

The edugeek Joomla Package has recently been updated. I'm sure someone will have the old package floating around that they could send you.

You could restore it from the backup:rolleyes:

I've had a look and a play at the new package, but changing over to that would require me redesigning a fair bit.

And yeah, I should have backed up things other than the content but alas I didn't. live and learn!

I've got the old package at home if you don't get it.

Why are Joomla sites hacked every five minutes? Is it due to the fact that people don't uipdate them regularly enough or is the system so insecure that people can easily find exploits?

Sorry to see that McDodge. The template you after has unfortunately been pulled due to some unscrupulous companies taking the template and charging for it's use.

There is an old link here that links to an older version though that might get you out of a pickle.

But the new one that's available is SWEET!

I had a similar problem, I would recommend using the new package as that brings better security. The 1.5 package seems to be a target on these forums, Mr.KsA isn't on my top friends list I tell thee

Hi

Due to the issues of copyright on the original 1.5 package - could you post/PM a few details of your school just so we can check out whether your "legit" (nothing personal - its just that your new around here so we don't know who you are :) ) - ta :)

Ah, sorry SimpleSi, I did not even think about that before posting. Apologies.:getmecoat:

Getting confusing - deleted my orig post before I'd seen yours :)

Since there's a post to the old package - (back in July I see!) - there's no point getting horse back in the stable :)

I would recommend using the new package as that brings better security.

AFAIK an updated old package is just as secure/insecure as the new one. :)

You just HAVE to keep up with the security updates.

As soon as the security updates are published - the hackers know what the vunerablities of old installs are and go to town on any system.

Its one of those things - you have to have it happen to you before you do domething about it :)

Its a big job when you look after 6 sites!

And once you've got a site up and running/made a design change - make a JoomlaPack copy of it and download it just so you don't lose your template changes.

Then just use Lazybackup to regularly save your content. (I get my sites SQL file emailed to me every night)

Simon

Thanks for all the help guys - it really is appreciated. I will take your advice about backup methods too, so thank you again!

The site is now back up and running and looks like it did before.
