Hi Guys,

Just wanted to know if any of you use SIMS via the wireless at your schools?

do you have any issues, is it slow?

I'm asking as im getting some teachers moaning its taking a while to load via the wireless (11meg wireless)

We use wireless for SIMS on around 100 XP standalone laptops, it's usually pretty reliable on our Trapeze network. I'd hate to think what it would of been like on our old unmanaged network. The latest SIMS patch we did (November I think) has made it take at least two minutes before the login box appears though (is fine with a cable), which some users are finding frustrating. Apparently a fix for it will arrive sometime this quarter.

Hi,

We use Sims.net both Wired and Wireless and it works just fine. The only trouble comes when you try to update, during this time it can run a little slow while the update packages are downloaded.

Interesting thanks for that :)

Running 150 wireless laptops and netbooks fine on a currently unmanaged wireless. Hopefully something we shall be progressing to very shortly is a managed system. But so fair has been running fine, only moving to managed wireless as we need better management of our signal channels and strengths so we can cover some dead zones.

Just purchase decent AP's from the start perhaps with management in mind and avoid the 'toys' perhaps you would use at home.

Yup, we use wireless for about 100 laptops throughout the school and it works fine. all unmanaged rubbish, well apart from in English where it is managed rubbish due to bad setting up.

Thanks for the info about the wireless and login issues from the Nov update, It only clicked today that it was super mega amazing fast on cable and super slow on the laptops.

the most of problems we had with sims were the updates, people would get impatient and cancel the update or wander out of wireless range and sims got broken and needed reinstallinh. we had some issues with wireless disconnections, hardware and user related. we dont have any problems now as we serve sims out through 2x2008 terminal servers. they're updated on weekends only and if they disconnect when they reconnect they get all their stuff back.
