mcloum Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 Hello, I have been asked (multiple times) to look at some software that can store settings for IP addresses and SMTP settings etc for different networks for our mobile workers. I have found a few that seem to do the job but i would prefer an free/open source one. Has anyone got any recomendations? Cheers
LeMarchand Posted January 14, 2009 Posted January 14, 2009 As none of the clever peeps have come up with something better, I've been experimenting with Net Profiles, but it doesn't do SMTP. It seems to work best with wireless networks, automatically changing profile by SSID. You can set mapped drives and printers and a few other bits and bobs as well as proxies etc. There are supposed to be script-based ways to do this, but I've only had limited success getting these to work .
Domino Posted January 14, 2009 Posted January 14, 2009 BAM! netprofiles, a free download Net Profiles
mcloum Posted January 15, 2009 Author Posted January 15, 2009 I found one called NetSetMan which does SMTP but not proxy settings, but it does support running of scripts as part of a profile so i created a vbscript that enables and disables the proxy server. tested it last night and it works great, free for none commercial use and stores 6 profiles which should be enoug for anybody NetSetMan - Network Settings Manager | Freeware & Professional
LeMarchand Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 Looks good, BUT: Professors and teachers may only use the product if they're working in an honorary capacity, i.e. unpaid.
Abaddon Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 Download for NetProfiles seems to be broken, or is it just me?
LeMarchand Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 Just you! Should (eventually) take you to a MediaFire page. Try going directly to the page. If the worst comes to the worst I could email it!
mcloum Posted January 15, 2009 Author Posted January 15, 2009 Looks good, BUT: Luckily its not a teacher or professor who needed it. Its a sports director for the humber region.
LeMarchand Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 Luckily its not a teacher or professor who needed it. Its a sports director for the humber region. Unless he does it for no money, my understanding is that the license is only for unpaid work.
