Snapped off Jack Plug

Our performing arts teacher has managed to snap off the headphone jack plug inside his MacBook.

Despite trying superglue and matchsticks and tweezers we can't get it out. The socket is a sealed unit on the motherboard so that's a none starter as well.

Does anyone know if there is a way to disable the socket through OSX?

Is is possible to drill it with a very fine drill? Maybe work up in sizes, and if the drill doesn't pull it out, screw something into the hole? /Just an idea

system preferences > sound > Output. Just change it to Internal Speakers.

Might not do it much good but if it's broken anyway - how about the tip of an old screwdriver and a bit of glue intended for metal rather than superglue? Leave it balanced in place while setting etc.

Yeah theres an app called "SoundSource" that lets you pick where the audio plays.

Can't you open up macbooks? If it's any normal laptop I've opened them up and soldered a new jack on before...or if it's in warranty blag the manufacturer.

I'd looked at that, but the only option is for digital out. No internal speakers!

It's well out of warranty! We did take the 'lid' off, but I'm not too sure if my soldering skills are quite up to the job!

I'm not too bothered if the plug stays in place, just as long as we can get some noise out of it!

I had the same problem on a PC laptop and ended up purchasing a cheap USB sound device .... I then plugged the speakers into it and Voila .... got my sounds back ...

 

Don't know much about Macs but assume USB is universal ...

That one had crossed my mind, but obviously we want to try the least cost option first!!!
