HI All

Just bought some new workstations to replace the old ones in our front office. These workstations start to build though RM build fine and will get all the way to the windows screen where you can see the green fields and blue sky with the cmd box over the top then it gives a error

System error 1231 has occurred

The network location cannot be reached

I can build any of our older style machines without issues but cannot build any of the four new machines. My build disk is up to date anybody got any ideas?

Symptoms:

After installing RM Hardware Support Pack 22 or above, Community Connect 3 workstations which had previously been built successfully may fail to rebuild.

During the build process, the workstations display the error: "System error 1231 - Could not connect to network".

Cause:

This may be because of a large number of custom drivers installed on the server. As a result, if you examine the file DRVCOPY.TXT created in C:\DRV of the affected workstation, you will find that the network card drivers are not listed in the top 62 lines. Hence the network card is not picked up.

Procedure

To resolve this issue, remove some of the custom drivers installed on the server so that the network card drivers will be listed in the top 62 lines.

To delete custom drivers:

1. Log on to a workstation as a system administrator.

2. From the Start menu, choose All Programs, System Management, RM Workstation Build Manager.

3. On the left-hand pane, expand Drivers.

4. Under Drivers, click the different driver types. It will list the drivers under each type in the right-hand pane.

5. To delete a driver, select the driver in the right-hand pane and on the toolbar click Delete Driver.

Hope this helps :)

Have you tried looking at the event viewer on the workstation in question?

Can you get access to the workstation?

If you can get access also look at the log files C:\Program Files\Research Machines\Network Management\Logfiles

this should give you an indication of what is failing and where.

Hi

Are you up to date with your Hardware Support Packs? You should be up to HSP34?

From what I can see - the Expert 3040 series is so new it has not yet had the correct drivers included in a CC3 Hardware Support Pack.

This means the workstation probably can't find the windows drivers for the network card. You could do two things. Either:

1) Manually ad the network card driver to the CC3 network. Go to RM Workstation Build Manager, go to Drivers, go to Windows XP, go to Network and add the driver.

2) Re-install Windows XP from the RM restore CD, manually install all the drivers for network, motherboard, sound, video, then Smartclient the workstation onto CC3.

Hope that helps.

What kind of switches do you have?

do you have STP configured or portfast?

As these are new computers they will be a lot faster than the old ones and therefore if STP is configured on your switchports it may be taking too long for the switch to auto-negotiate with the computers nic and therefore the DHCP and DNS services will not be able to join it to the network.

If you have a small 6 port switch then i would advise you to plug that into the wall socket in the room where you are attempting to build and then plugging the workstation into it and then build it onto the network, we had a similar problem about 2 years ago.

let me know how you get on.
