If so how easy is it to learn?

As you know i do allot where E-Sports Tournaments is concerned, and i need to make a new website and i am thinking of doing this using adobe flex. will flex be able to create ladders, tournaments etc

i also need to make an Automated bracket (Double Elimination, Single Elimination etc) could flex do that.

Thanks

It probably could, but it may not be the best tool for the job.

Have you got much coding experience in anything? HTML, CSS, actionscript even?

Flex is fantastic for writing a gui. A quick answer is yes, it can do what you describe but..

..so can any other script language (php, asp, etc). You are limited only by your own skill and ingenuity.

You will need to use another language for database access (PHP, java, coldfusion)

As for how long to learn, that really depends on you and your previous knowledge.

Know Javascript, html, css, another language with db access (and sql) and object oriented programming? - Fairly fast

Know nothing? - longer

Here's a starter to learn flex in a week

Thanks guys,

Unfortunatly like mentioned by urselves my biggest problem is my lack of skill and knowledge. and its going to take a while to learn and plenty of questions on here ;)

I have done bits in HTML and PHP but nothing major just editing code so that it does something (Excuse my lack of technical language)

I found that "Learn Adobe Flex in a week" last night, was going to look at it today :)

See as we do this in our own time, we dont have the funding to pay someone to do it so its basically us guys sit at a computer learning :D great fun!

At least now i know it can be done, i best start reading!.. watching!.. playing!!

Thanks

James.

If I may, I would recommend that you invest in at least one book -

Training from the source, Adobe Flex 3 (Tapper, Labriola, Boles, Talbot)

[ame=http://www.amazon.co.uk/Adobe-Flex-3-Training-Source/dp/0321529189/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1230129503&sr=8-1]Amazon Link £25.72 reduced from £42.88[/ame]

I think that presents things in a better way than the videos if you are coming in fresh, but by all means, try the videos first.
