Morning people.

We've got a initial £5k to start our network IP camera security system so I starting specing up a workstation for storing all the images.

I've specced up one I would build myself at CCL and it comes to about £600 but obviously it isn't a server.

Do you reckon I should go for a entry level server instead and just add storage space as I go along?

You can't go far wrong buying a Thecus NAS device and configuring them with RAID to get maximum storage. The cost will depending on the size of the disks you put it in it though. Scan has a good range to have a look at.

Depends on how many cameras / frame rate and what kind of hammering it will take. I'm in the process of wheedling for a dedicated camera box myself.

We have conventional cameras in the corridors and are putting Axis cameras in computer rooms (protecting the new machines :)).

If it's a whole-school (corridors + grounds + rooms) system - go for a server.
