IanT Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 I know a few mates of mine who have upgraded to the 50meg service.............. still slow capped rubbish these are the words from them av fun!
pagelad Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 Capped? Its supposed to be uncapped isnt it? Did they get full speed when they had 20mb?
Michael Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 Yes I can receive all Virgin's services (apparently), however with a download of 50Mbps and an upload of 1.5Mbps that's terrible! Surely the upload isn't enough?
IanT Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 from what I've been told the 50mb/s isnt what its cracked up to be Samuel L. Jackson: 50 mega bit per second.......the mother of all broadband - HA! ok........
EduTech Posted February 7, 2009 Author Posted February 7, 2009 to be honest, i think even with 50 meg your still going to see the slow down in the service just like you do know with there 20meg package. Oh yh did you pay them the £80 pound out of curiosity?
pagelad Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 I paid a £50 activation fee and 60 for an install (they double the rate if you want it on a Saturday) The 20 i have now runs at full speed now so hopefully the 50 will as well

pagelad Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 Tell me about it, They said they could come out on Tuesday but they dont give you a specific time, just morning or afternoon. Do they not understand people have jobs? Oh forgot to mention im getting the free Netgear N router and dongle which im planning on selling to recoup some of the install costs!
DrCheese Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 This thread reminded me to check if my area was ready for it yet and fantastic, it now is. So I go to look at ordering it and I found out about the £80 charge! What a joke. I don't *need* the wireless N router they want to bundle with it (Which is really where the majority of that price is coming from) Until the install price comes down and I can get it without the router I think I'll pass. That and everytime we call VM, they end up screwing up our service somehow or another. When I upgraded to 10mbit they somehow moved our services to another address, and cut us off 2/3 times in a month! Did manage to get a cheapo v+ box out of them for it tho.
EduTech Posted February 7, 2009 Author Posted February 7, 2009 i think its a joke them charging you for them to just come and check to see if it works, or that u have the right signal. i spoke to a VM Engineer the other week, and he didn't know what they charged for him to come and do it. and when i told him he was like WTF! lol

IM GOING TO DOWNLOAD THE ENTIRE INTERNET!! When the last pope died, a student at the college I worked at wanted to download everything that had ever been published about him. She was convinced that there would be a conspiracy to remove it all from the web. the only problem she had was that she was trying to download it on to floppy discs ... (well, that's obviously not the only problem she had but it was the only problem she could see!)
NeoPlosive Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 (edited) ...) floppy discs (... Whao, what are these thing's called "floppy discs"? I don't appear to be familiar with them .. .. .. .. .. FRIGGIN HELL! Floppy Discs still exist - argh! Keep a few laying around for technical use and builds but rid the students and households of them. Edited February 8, 2009 by NeoPlosive Grammar
pagelad Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 Well its installed, Im getting a download rate between 4500 and 5500 from Giganews (2 Connections) Ive blasted about 15gb through so far and ive not hit a cap, Havent received my new router yet but so far im impressed!
