HP nx6110 laptop strangeness

I have a HP nx6110 laptop which was blue screening when trying to boot.

 

I thought nothing of this and re-built it via legacy WDS (RIS).

 

The laptop did take a little longer than usual to build but, again, this isn't out of the ordinary.

 

The problem is, that the laptop now stalls, stutters and freezes in Windows. There's no excessive memory or processor usage and the disk activity light doesn't even flicker.

 

I have run multiple memory and hard disk diagnostics and they have all come back clean.

 

What do I try next?

I would probably start with:

 

CPU stress test / hp diagnostic tools in bios if present / upgrade the bios / check power and temperature levels using dignostic software like everest while the system is running. Crack it open and blast it our with an air compresser then clean and reapply thermal paste on the CPU.

We have approx 30+ of the HP nx6110; weve had quite a few laptops which have experienced the same problems you experienced.

 

If you move the laptop around they start working - intresting eh!

 

I spoke to HP about this - they are aware of the issue but the repair would resort in a replacement motherboard - Ours were all on a 1 year warranty and when the issues started happening the laptops were just out of warranty - Just our look!

 

We have started to replace them...

Unfortunately I have run out of spray duster and am a little skint at the moment

 

I have reseated all the components (and even swapped the RAM) but the same problem occurs.

 

Streess testing is the next option (assuming it doesn't fall over before I can start a test!)

Install Linux - do you get similar symptoms? Compile a kernel - if you've got flaky hardware a good long compile will normally cause it to fall over.

I'm going for plan B... rob the LCD panel and swap it with one that has a knackered panel. Hopefully I'll have one usable machine then, rather than two unusable ones!

Ric, I've also suffered this, still looking for a motherboard for one for a mate whos been without his laptop for about 2 years now, if you have a mangled one that has a good board that you are thinking of tossing a very happy edugeek member would be made Sure I could make it worth your while somehow.
