IT Desks

We've got a new sixth form/music block being built and i've been tasked with not only getting the PC hardware quotes, but also the PC furniture. The music room wants these: Products Verso - Music Multi-Desk ICT Furniture, School IT Desks and i was just wondering if anybody has used those style desks, where the monitor pushes down into the desk so it can be used as a normal desk too.

if they were any good i'd probably look at the tower range from them too as the sixth form would need a lot of pc's but also a lot of desk space.

anybody used sort of integrated desks where you can use your own pc and the monitors slide into the desk so it can be used as a normal desk too?

Any recommendations?

I'm off to see Bretford (who make the Verso range) at BETT to see what they are like, but obviously the more choices I have the better!

Here's our solution, not music - but it's a nice solution for creating work areas for the pupils.

Also, we do have issues regarding the plastic backs of the monitors peeling away from the metal part - ironically the monitors don't break when they do fall. And are looking for a simple solution involving some hard foam and a few bits of wood to solve it.

Nice, simple design Maz - just 2 questions

1. How do you attach the monitor to the lifting desktop?

2. Is there anything to stop the desktop from slamming if it's dropped rather than lowered?

We had a thin client suite set up last summer with these (tower) desks and the only problem we've encountered has come about because a teacher snapped off the key while trying to unlock the monitor housing. The company were extremely helpful, sending us two replacement locks free of charge with instructions on how to get at the broken lock etc.

We had the desks installed by a third party as they were a part of a larger package deal so I can't speak for the company's installation quality.

Be prepared for the little angels to accidentally trap keyboard and mice cables though.

Actually, integrated desks have been around for at least 7 years, really since flat-screen monitors became readily available, but it has taken quite a while for this innovation to be adopted widely.

Last day there tomorrow, Monitors aren't recessed though pupils put keyboard and mose behind the monitor if they want to use the desk space.

The monitor is attached originally by 4 screws into a X shaped bracket.

 

We have pistons - not sure if you can see it on the picture well on the left hand side. Which gives just enough room for the monitor to fit onto the desk.
