penfold Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 Ok Guys, I'm looking at getting a digital photo frame as a present. I dont want to spend loads, but I dont see the point in buying something that is rubbish. There seems to be loads of 7" out there at the moment all starting at the same price. All get mixed reviews. Has anyone got any opinions on a decent one??
elsiegee40 Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 (edited) We bought a Sony one for the in-laws for this Christmas. I was impressed by how simple it was to use once (plug it in, shove in SD card, switch it on) [ame=http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0013K533U]Sony DPF-D70 7" Black Digital Photo Frame - With 256MB: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics & Photo[/ame] Even the in-laws should be able to cope with this without demanding on-site tech support from me Edited December 8, 2008 by elsiegee40
pbrian49 Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 I bought a 7" Kodak one from Argos the other week, very impressed with it. They have some good deals on frames at the moment.
tonyd Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 (edited) I really like the look of this wireless photo frame from BT - BT Shop - BT eFrame 1000 Wireless 8" Photo Frame (038348) - 4:3 screen size (WHY would you want wide screen???) - can subscribe it to flicker feed, so need need just to show them your pictures! - auto switch on & off every day. And at £65 compares well with a lot of other frames, just hope they get some stock in again soon... I'd like to have a play with the interface, since if you've filled a 4 or 8Gb card with images you want a way to quickly display just some of them, and the frames I've seen so far do not seem to be able to do this. penfold Posted December 8, 2008 Author Posted December 8, 2008 The idea behind it was that my dad used to be a bit of a photographer until us kids came along:rolleyes: He knows how to play around with photos on his computer, so I am fairly confident he could use a digital photo frame and transfer photos ok. tonyd : From most of the ones I've seen (within my price range) you can only set up a slideshow with all the photos you have, which as you have said is a pain when you only want to see a few photos and have 4gb worth to go through. Thanks for the advice...
bjohnny42 Posted December 20, 2008 Posted December 20, 2008 I'm also in the market for getting my folks a digital photo frame. Does anyone know one that does the following. WiFi compatible with wpa. (Mum and Dad's Sky Broadband.) Ability to email photos to it or use flickr or some other very simple online update method so that I can be on holiday with my phone / camera and update their frame. Ability to MMS SMS to it would be fab too. They should be able to pop an SD card in too.
dhicks Posted December 21, 2008 Posted December 21, 2008 Has anyone got any opinions on a decent one?? Don't know about decent, but I got my sister a 5" digital photo frame for £22 from Currys yesterday. I'll maybe give it a test today to see how well it works. -- David Hicks
mac_shinobi Posted December 21, 2008 Posted December 21, 2008 Just connect my HD TV to my apple mac and works as a lovely huge photo frame as well as video streaming, music etc. Loverly
antoeknee Posted December 21, 2008 Posted December 21, 2008 Whatever features you're looking for just note that a lot of the 'cheaper' frames are quite low resolution. If you look at the spec of this one from Tesco site even though its 7" the res is very low 480 x 234 Technika JP07 7" Digital Photo Frame - Tesco.Direct Same with this from PCW Matsui Digital Photo Frame - Buy the Matsui White Digital Photo Frame at PC World. Where as this Sony has higher res 800 x 400 Sony Digital Photo Frame - Buy the Sony DPF-D70 Digital Photo Frame at PC World.
penfold Posted December 22, 2008 Author Posted December 22, 2008 I dont see the point in getting a low res frame. If the picture looks rubboish, I wont want to look at it anyway. There have been quite a few offers on lately, but mostly seem to be on 480 x 234 frames, so I'm still looking. Probably going to be for a birthday present now next year.
