tmcd35 Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 Hi, I've been asked to look into IWBs for our two Food Tech rooms. My predecessor (apparently) said no way never because of the grease from cooking. I, on the other hand am inclined to allow them to have projectors and IWB's. Just wondering what the conventional wisdom is regarding this issue? Do you have projectors and whiteboards in your cooking rooms? If so, have you experienced any problems with them being there? Cheers. Terry.
Sylv3r Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 We have projectors in our food rooms as well as wood work rooms, and never had any issues with them + we never have the time to clean the filters so they are lasting. 1
laserblazer Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 We have projectors in DT and Food/Textiles rooms and for some reason the filters are never as dirty as other rooms in the same building. The music room filter gets very dirty. 1
tmcd35 Posted November 27, 2008 Author Posted November 27, 2008 I've discussed this with the head and I'm now looking at quotes for projectors, whiteboards, installation, etc. Thanks for the advice guys.
jcollings Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 We looked at them but in the end decided to put large plasma screen in instead. Obviously you loose the interactivity aspect but the food tech staff seem happy enough without it. Just another thing to think about.
FN-GM Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 Same here we have more than one food room and non of them have any issues. I tend to find because the floor isn't carpet the filters are cleaner.
DarrenC Posted November 28, 2008 Posted November 28, 2008 You can also get projectors that are sealed units (and not dlp) specifically for dusty/dirty atmospheres, I think NEC do one. Also remember it makes a difference where in the room you place the projector and board. If you have a lot of heat sources around the room, or little access to wall spaces a lot of schools go for a projector with a standard screen and an interactive panel instead.
sammy Posted November 28, 2008 Posted November 28, 2008 As long as the cooker extractor hoods are not blowing across or onto the whiteboards you should be fine....i think the key is to be strategic about where in relation to the extractors and cookers the screens/whiteboards are placed... but somebody will have the task of running a damp cloth across those whiteboards....your not getting out of that...
