I don't usually like Fujitsu desktops and there spec is crap but I'm just using them for junior kiddies who don't need powerful PC's. I've ordered 6 of them as they are a bargain.
petectid Posted May 5, 2006 Posted May 5, 2006 Heh. They'd make nice thin clients. Why buy these when you could save £15.30 per unit buying a true thin client box, the HP Compaq t5125 Thin Client £167.69 from the same vendor, probably cheaper elsewhere, and takes up less space?

DMcCoy Posted May 5, 2006 Posted May 5, 2006 I've just been battling with dabs to return a unbeliveably awful logitech bluetooth keyboard and mouse (Mx 5000 - avoid it at all costs, it doesn't work). It has taken one week, 12 emails and 10 replys to get a refund! Their returns label page is also broken, managed to use bits of the url from my broken print to construct a label. Oh if anyone does look at the keyboard/mouse here is whats wrong with it: In *real* bluetooth mode (it acts a usb hub normally) the extra functions don't work. It disconnects when it feels like it (normal and bt mode). The EVE players will understand that being sat outside a station in a hauler in low sec when your bluetooth dongle just made windows go bing bong and now disconnected your kb/mouse made me send it back I don't think I'll buy from dabs anymore, the whole returns process was needlessly complicated and designed to dump responsability on the manufacturer.

They are pretty cheap aren't they?! Just to add an opinion as a user of a Fujitsu Siemens desktop - I bought a Scaleo P on impulse as a Bank Holiday Special in PC World almost exactly a year ago. Overall, it hasn't been too bad but isn't brilliant. The case suffered from bad vibration noises, which I eventually tracked down to the hard disk being mounted in plastic runners and not actually screwed in - it's a Western Digital 250Gb 7500rpm SATA beast too - but moving it to a standard screwed bay solved the issue. The power management is a bit weird and it does have a tendency to wake from standby or hibernation of its own accord. And despite being a Pentium 4 3.2GHz HT with 1Gb RAM, it still somehow feels sluggish at times. And the CPU cooler makes a terrible racket when the processor is working hard. It's an OK machine, and hasn't suffered any failures in the first year, but I'm not sure I'd buy Fujitsu again.

Everything I'm buying seems to be HP IMHO, they make good kit although I couldn't comment on the customer service since I haven't had to use it (touch wood). The build quality is also a lot better than DELL from what I've seen and it's got to be worth paying a little extra to prevent the things breaking when ham-firsted lusers get in front of it!

Norphy Posted May 5, 2006 Posted May 5, 2006 The only Dells we have are the various Latitude D laptop models that we got under LFT. They've held up very well over the three years and Dell support has been excellent. Most of our desktops are NEC although the latest ones are HP. I would say that in terms of internal part quality HP and NEC are on a rough parity (same brand motherboard, RAM, optical drive, varying hard drive makes). The HP keyboards are better than the NECs but the NECs have more robust cases. NEC support has been good so far too (although they do insist on sending out engineers to replace RAM and hard drives. That said, the engineers are happy when we just give them a part and say "there you go"). We've not had to call HP out yet so I can't comment on their support.
