Send hex codes to com port

hi there, does anyone know how i can send a series of hex codes to a com port?

 

i want to send these codes to shut down the projector when the pc powers off, and run it as a shutdown script/batch file etc.

 

the codes i want to send are 02h 01h 00h 00h 00h 03h , this according to the manufacturer should make the nec vt470 projector switch off.

 

This is for a rear projection smart board, and despite many enquiries smart dont know how to do this, despite their ealier versions of smartboard doing this for you.

If you plan to have the com port connected to a Windows PC (serial). You can use Visual Basic 2008 Express to design a program to send the command. Not sure what else can send Hex over com.

The cheap way would be to create a text file with a hex editor then open the file in notepad and copy the characters into your telnet application. Not a fantastic solution but a good way to test. I would look at making an app to do it more easily.

I think you just need to "print 02h" using the serial module of whatever language your using

i'll try those, thanks for the replys, but as far as programming goes, i gave that up years ago, and happier ( much ) that way.

I'm awaiting a replacement lamp unit, so when i get that running i'll give this a try

As some/Most teachers are lazy, forgetful, and have little regard for technology; this would probably not work.

There's always they expensive option > SP Controls Inc. , well, I say that, I'm still waiting for a quote from my supplier. They do different versions, all have a wall plate, and a timer/clock in so they switch off a) after Xmin/hours of non-use, or b) at a specified time GMT/BST.

 

Oh, yes, what do you think, a price for retrofitting 75 projectors...

Some projectors (including many Hitachi's) have an auto-off timer that you can set.

The proviso is that the timer starts when there is no signal going to the projector:- if the computer is left on all night at the logon screen then the projector will display it all night too.
