Yep ... we had it yesterday.

We have been waiting for it for a while, but why on earth right now. I was meant to be taking holiday on Friday (off to a concert in Manchester in the evening) and spending the day doing nice things at home ...

So my external visits for today are cancelled, my day off is cancelled, my whole weekend is cancelled ...

I will be sticking the details of what happens to the team, what work they have to do to prepare, what their impact is, etc ...

I have to be interviewed as a matter of course (pleasures of being manglement) and hopefully I will be able to get a good insight in what they are looking for in schools with regards to ICT and supporting IT.

*has an inkling of which concerts are on in Manchester on Friday night* ;-)

We weren't bothered in the slightest when Ofsted/HMI (or however they're known now) came in.. or maybe that's because they wanted to keep them away from the NM... or possibly from me *evil grin*

We had ours before christmas, didn't come anywhere near us..... As has been said above, they concentrated on teaching. Mind you, we don't have a network manager, so there's no management issues.

Yep ... I will be interviewed ... rereading our SEF at the moment ... making sure I have all the facts and documentation to hand so that they can go off and track things.

Nah ... there are starting to be quite a number of non-teaching assistant heads now ... quite often they are the Business Manager, but in some schools you also get IT Director / Director of ICT / eLearning Manager / and so on ...

I think there were around 20 at my last count.

And OFSTED aren't phased by it anymore either ... they have just shrugged their collective shoulders and gone "yes? and?"

So ... there is a new target to aim for chaps and chappesses.

lol ... nope ... there are over 20 equivalent people who are Asst Heads looking after ICT stuff ...

NCSL have courses now for Business Managers as senior leaders ... but nothing for us yet, however they do 'leading from the middle' for associate staff now, so it is a start.

Most of our teachers are fine with it ... it gives them access to someone who is open to ideas and willing to share them, someone who is not bogged down with day to day support, someone who can fill in for other things when needed ...

Thankfully the head of faculty of ICT and DT is helpful and we generally have a good working relationship. We both believe in devolved leadership for ICT and were very happy that when we went along to TeamSLICT we knew exactly what we need to do over the next few years ... it is just getting the right combination of time, people and money.

I am sat here writing the timeline for what we have done over the last 3 years and what are plans are for the next 3-5 ... and it is scary ...

We have spent a considerable amount of money and I am now justifying it ... some based on ICT results, some based on subject results in other areas ... most based on showing best practise.

When the need for someone with a high level IT skills and experience is needed in senior management :D

I would have thought that these days someone like this is always needed. There certainly isn't anyone like that in my schools, or the local secondarys. It is nice to see that someone is forward looking in this business!

Good Luck with the beasts

So are these people paid as Support Staff or Teaching Staff ?

Because lets face it there is an awfull lot of difference between to the two pay scales.

they are paid as non teaching assistant heads most of time which means wage is higher than senior network manager andi s inline with smt management paygrades but thy are often on lower grade than same teaching assistant heads

but once more non teaching assistant heads then can ask to bring pay inline with teachers
