Can you not get the radio edit which will already have any swearing removed?

...is that even legal?!?!

Maybe its not but i doubt very much a school is going to get done for it. DJs have been editting music for the last 25+ years and i havnt ever heard of one getting done for it.

Radio and TV stations edit tracks all the time to remove swear words, all you're doing is bleeping the word out, it isn't like you're sampling it and re-using it in a piece of your own material.

No they don't, the record company supplies a radio edit

The rest of the song and it's tone are OK, but "bitch" isn't .

I'm the trouble starter, punkin' instigator

I'm the fear addicted, a danger illustrated

I'm a firestarter, twisted firestarter

You're the firestarter, twisted firestarter

I'm the bitch you hated, filth infatuated - yeeeaaaah

I'm the pain you tasted, well intoxicated

You're the firestarter, twisted firestarter

I'm the self inflicted, mind detonator - yeah

I'm the one infected, twisted animator

Mind you, I'm always surprised that primary kids are encouraged to sing along with 'Grease' (the moral of which seems to be "slut yourself up to get your man").

The way we do it open the mp3 with Audacity, click and drag to highlight the offensive word, then Effects > Reverse. That way you can't make out the rude word, but you don't lose the pitch or beat of the song.

Peace

Alternative method???

Say "I'm sorry, one does not exist and I'm not willing to break the law to produce one. Please re-think your lesson plan".

Maybe its not but i doubt very much a school is going to get done for it.

Not sure that makes it right. "Yes, it's illegal, but as long as you don't get caught it's OK".

As a professional board, not sure we should be encouraging that sort of behaviour.

..that would mean they were using 95% of the original song.

Think we need a legal expert here.

Hobby horse of mine I'm afraid - staff here:

Teacher: Can I borrow the full version of Office to put on my home PC, it's expensive.

Me: No, we're not licensed, it'd be illegal.

Teacher: But no one would know.

They don't quite understand that that's not the point!

I'd almost certainly expect it to be illegal - as you're modifying intelluctual property held under copyright, you'd need the copyright holders consent.

The other question is where did the track come from....

in that case maybe they should use Smack my bitch up once edited there would probably be less than 5% left

Take a look at my earlier post - it sounds to me like he just wants the 'Bitch' part. Which would be less than 5%

This isnt a dig and of course we shouldnt be seen to encourage it but;

Have you ever owned a walkman? A minidisc player? An mp3 player? Where did you get the music from to put on them? Vinyl, CDs, the radio etc? Never transfered a video to DVD? Well thats illegal or atleast was (they may have slackened them rules, im not sure). I dare say there are very few people who can say they have never done, or benifitted from, any of them things.

Point is i wasnt saying "just dont get caught". Some things are illegal but are socially acceptable to do.
